A couple weeks ago, I started looking more deeply at what some of the words I use in my business mean. I started with the word “anti-boring”…which makes sense as I often refer to myself as the Anti-Boring Approach Coach.
Today, I’m taking on another term I use: de-stressify. As an academic life coach, it is super important to me to help make school less stressful for students, parents, and educators. And now I’m beginning to see another reallly big way that adults might be able to help de-stressify school for students.

Thanks again. A couple of thoughts, though. I understand de-centering adultness but it is different from some of the other things on the list. All students are not American, all students are not fully able-bodied, all students are not white so I get de-centering those. However, all students do hope someday to become adults. One of the things we are teaching them (or at least are planting the seeds for) is for them to be better functioning adults. So while part of me understands not having it as the total focus, we must admit adultness is the ultimate goal.
