I’m feeling refreshed after my Spring Break and in the mood to talk about success. Success for students, for educators, for coaches…success for everyone!
We throw the word “success” around a lot, but don’t often stop to think about what our personal definition of that word might be and what success looks and feels like for us as individuals. My idea of success might look nothing like yours, and the standards of success we set for others might not be right for them. We should each get to decide what success is for us…and then reevaluate our ideas over time, whenever we wish or need to.
I think about success a lot in my work as an academic coach for students and in my work teaching my anti-boring toolkit to teachers and coaches. What I’ve noticed over the years is that there are some principles that propel you forward toward success, and some that actually hold you back from achieving your desired results…no matter who you are and what you’re trying to accomplish.
Over time, I’ve gathered these principles into a list of what I call The 7 Do’s and 2 Don’ts of Inevitable Success…and today I’m going to share them with you! You can get the full list in a handy-dandy chart that you can refer to again and again by signing up for it here. Before you rush to read the principles, however, please take the time to do the exercises on the first two pages…you’ll thank me!
Also on the theme of success, today I’m holding my monthly, live, free, office hours, and I’d love it if you’d join us. In the first 30 minutes, I answer questions from students, parents, and educators about studying, motivation, and organization; and in the second 30 minutes, I answer questions from educators and coaches about the business of academic coaching. You can sign up here to send me your question and get the Zoom link to join. In today’s conversation, we’ll be discussing how the 7 Do’s and 2 Don’ts on this checklist can be used to provide a final burst of motivation for the school year––who couldn’t use that?!
No matter who you are and what you’re aiming for, I wish you inevitable success!
P.S. Sign up for the office hours, even if you can’t be there live…or you don’t have a specific question! Listening to me talk with others about their questions might give you inspiration you didn’t know you needed. And, I’ll send you a recording of the session so you can watch at a time that suits your schedule. Sign up here!
