I just finished collaging the cover of a new spiral notebook, and now I can’t wait to write in it! Art makes such a difference in our lives.
I often have my academic coaching clients decorate their planner covers for this very reason. Just yesterday a senior in high school told me that she has already started collecting pictures for next year’s planner, when she is a freshman in college. This from a client who usually has a terrible time planning ahead.
How might you incorporate more artfulness into the mundane systems in your life?
I love this idea and have just been thinking recently about how creating a nice, personalised cover for your notebooks and files makes a difference to how you relate to these items.
If you’ve spent precious time and energy and thought carefully about what you want to go on there and you like the look of the notebook, then you’re less likely to be psychologically repelled by it.
I was in a local bookshop the other day that sells funky notebooks with artistic covers, but these notebooks were all really overpriced ($30 plus for a small notebook!). This got me thinking “Why not create your own fancy notebook for a fraction of the price?”
This blog post and your lovely example has tipped me over the edge. I’m going to create some nice covers for some notebooks this weekend! Thanks again!
